Bal Masque

A night of mystery and elegance it is. This was the first time in the events of the College of Law that I decided to rent a gown for this first ever masquerade ball. It was kinda pressuring me though. LOL! Oh well.. my close friends and I were so excited on what to wear and the masks, make-up and the shoes. Oh women! Haha. It's hard being a female but it's fun, fun, fun! So here are pictures of me before the event, during the event and after the event. So much fun with my friends, brothers and sisters of Mu Kappa Phi. HAVE YOU GOT THE BALLS?

“You make enemies in law school. The competition can be vicious. People learn how to cheat and backstab; it’s training for the real world.”
–The Rainmake John Grisham

Low and behold what I could imagine after all the experiences I’ve had when I vowed to take on school politics. Being the treasurer in the Supreme Law Student Council for the academic year of 2011 – 2012 was, as they say it, one helluva roller coaster ride. It was a challenge and you got to learn how to juggle your time at work, at law school and in the council. You learn a lot such as how to deal civilly people of different walks of life most especially your detractors. I am never a patient person thus being born under the Taurean Zodiac sign but because of my stay in the SLSC, I learned patience and the art of time management.

In one year, through this experience, you will know who among your friends will betray you and who among them will stick around especially when you are in need. True enough, if you ambitiously want to become an SLSC officer, being faint-hearted is a no. This is only for the brave, for the committed and for the unselfish. You have to have the balls to be in school politics.

This journey was such a challenge especially for a rookie like me. I’ve had a lot of first times in the SLSC experience such as travelling to different places on attending conventions. It has measured how far I can go and how far I can challenge myself. Stress and anger management is a need when you enter the world of being a public servant. I’ve had to make lots of sacrifices the moment I took the oath. I’ve had disappointments but that’s normal in every school politics. The only thing that keeps me going are the people that have helped me through it all.

A piece of advice for the upcoming SLSC officers, governing a pool of intelligent law students is not a joke for there are responsibilities to accomplish and they are smart enough to pin point your mistakes. It’s like you are walking on egg shells almost all the time. It isn’t easy for it’s not about the glory days of being famous but it’s about sacrifice. If you are not that prepared for the new journey you’ll be stepping on, your grades might get compromised and that is never a good thing for you came to law school not to be a politician but to be a lawyer. Yup, Grisham was right on! This is training for the real world. Just do your job well and enjoy the journey.

The gown. . .

So excited for the "Bal Masque". Yey! This shall be my first take on wearing a gown. LOL! In a masquerade ball, aside from the masks one is wearing, you gotta have the chance to be bizarre looking and elegant at the same time. I decided to rent a gown ala white witch style. Wee! This is something every girl looks forward to. Oh yeah! I so can't wait. Shoes, make - up, masks, MUA and the hairstylist are all set! Now here's my gown.. Hope you guys like it!  ♥ =)

Pubcorp & My Jersey

Almost 3am already and I am still wide awake reading tons of public corporation cases to be digested and thoroughly read for the upcoming finals which is in the nature of an oral recitation. Not feeling sleep right now. I am already through with the first batch of cases when all of a sudden I felt hungry so I grabbed an instant noodle and ate it whilst indulging to the thought that for the first time I now have my first ever jersey. Yey! It didn't really cost that much since I was creative enough to have bought a cheap set of ready made jerseys then went to the tailoring shop to put on the name ABAN/LAW at the back and my lucky number 13 in front. Haha! I just can't get enough of this. I am so lovin' my jersey! :D

Plant a Tree and Grow with Me

Last February 24 of this year, with my initiative as a SLSC officer of the College of Law, I tried to convince our President to interact with the City government on their tree planting activity in honor of those who died of the Sendong tragedy last Dec. 17, 2011. I, the rest of the COL constituents and Atty. Young were in cooperation to make this event a success. Not just for the sake of having fun, mingling with the rest of the people in the legal profession but it is by coming together for a cause and planting more than 1000 seedlings at the Pindugangan Bridge which was greatly damaged due to the strong flood which cause ruckus to the Iligan residents out of the blue. It was a nice thing to do because we were doing it for a good cause and we wish that by planting these trees, those Sendong victims who up to now have not been found and are still missing will look over these seedlings and tend to it in spirit to help Iligan recover from the traumatic effects of that incident. I hope that these trees will live on and protect us from the wrath of Mother Nature. I also hope that people will change for the better and take good care of our environment. Planting trees could be the start of it and so on. Let's do this not just for the NOW but for the FUTURE GENERATION to come.
